BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island officials have approved a motion to suppress several resolutions that oppose a proposed natural gas-fired power plant.

WPRI-TV reports the Energy Facility Siting Board has ruled only the Town of Burrillville’s opposition resolution will be considered in hearings against the power plant.

More than 30 towns and cities in the state had passed resolutions opposing the plant by Chicago-based developers Invenergy.

Burrillville Town Manager Michael Wood calls the plant a statewide issue, and he argues the resolutions by other cities and towns should be “accepted and respected.”

Invenergy representatives have previously said they are targeting a June 2020 opening for the $1 billion plant in Burrillville.
