FORTY FORT – Dallas completed its seventh straight perfect Wyoming Valley Conference boys cross country season and the Mountaineers made it look easy.
Jack Zardecki was followed to the finish line by three Dallas teammates Wednesday in a six-team cluster meet at the Luzerne County Rec Field, leading the Mountaineers to the final three wins they needed to finish 18-0.
“I’m happy, but we still have some stuff we need to do,” Dallas coach Matt Samuel said of Wednesday’s conference championship and the Oct. 25 District 2 championships where the Mountaineers will try to earn a chance to go after their third straight state title Nov. 4 in Hershey.
Zardecki completed the 3.1-mile course in 15:55 for a 32-second win.
Josh Wyandt, Mitchell Rome and Adam Borton were closer together while finishing second, third and fourth. Rome trailed Wyandt by seven seconds and beat Borton by six.
Dallas beat both Lake-Lehman and Tunkhannock by 15-46 scores and handled Wyoming Valley West, the only team to prevent Dallas from sweeping the top five spots, 17-42.
Josh Jarden was seventh for the Mountaineers.
Lake-Lehman and Tunkhannock each went 2-1.
Lake-Lehman defeated Wyoming Seminary, 18-45, and Wyoming Area, 20-41, with the help of Riley Newman’s eighth-place finish.
Ben Tidball was ninth for Tunkhannock, which topped Wyoming Seminary, 17-42, and host Wyoming Area, 19-42.
Dallas beat Holy Redeemer by seven points and Hazleton Area by 11, but dominated the rest of its conference competition by larger margins while extending its WVC winning streak to 120.

Love had assisted Amanda Ayers on the only goal of the first half.
Olivia Kimmerle scored off a Gabriela Ramirez assist early in the second half and Kristen O’Malley put Dallas ahead with an unassisted goal midway through the half.
Lake-Lehman led in shots, 15-7, and corner kicks, 3-2.
Rachel Nelligan made 13 saves for Dallas.

Dallas overcame two first-half interception returns for touchdowns and erased a 13-point halftime deficit Oct. 6 while winning at home to improve to 5-2.
Bradley Adams caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Michael Starbuck, Lenny Kelley scored on an 8-yard run and Nate Maransky added his second and third extra-point kicks of the game during the third quarter.
The Mountaineers shut out the Buckhorns in the second half with the help of Matt Maransky’s blocked field goal and Dylan Schuster’s break up of a fourth-down pass with two minutes left.

Nate O’Donnell threw three touchdown passes while Matt Kurtz carried 15 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns for Lake-Lehman in the Oct. 6 WVC Class 3A/A Division road win.
