Sugar Hill City Council approves housing development near Sugar Hill Church

A new townhome community is coming to Sugar Hill near Sugar Hill Church and the city's downtown area.

City council members approved the 1.29-acre development, which will feature between six and 10 townhomes, at their voting session Monday night, said Paul Radford, city manager.

The property sits along Hillcrest Drive, just north of the church.

"There's a number of conditions (with the approval) because it's in our Town Center Overlay (District), related to the look and feel of it, along with an access point out of the development," said Radford.

The developer, Southern Heritage Home Buildings, will have to align the entrance into the property with the existing intersection of Hillcrest Drive and the Hillcrest Glen subdivision.

A walkway must also be provided from the front doors of the homes to the existing sidewalk along Hillcrest Drive.

Radford said the homes will likely be priced in the mid- to high-200's.

The Sugar Hill Planning Commission previously recommended approval of the plan.
