Boost given to fundraiser

Linden PBA Local No. 42 donated $100 toward Linden Public Schools’ wristband project to help a Texas high school destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. Third-prize Mega Million tickets sold

Craft beer tasting for HomeSharing

A craft beer tasting and brewery tour at the Trap Rock Restaurant Brewery, 279 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights, will benefit HomeSharing, a Bridgewater affordable housing nonprofit organization. Hunterdon history talk is Oct. 15

David Reading, a direct descendant of John Reading, the first native-born governor of the province of New Jersey in 1747 and a founder of Princeton University, will present a talk on the West Jersey Proprietors, the original owners of half of New Jersey, including Hunterdon County, at 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at the main branch of the Hunterdon County Library, 314 Route 12, Raritan Township. The talk, sponsored by Hunterdon 300th, is free.

Artist of the Year exhibit

The Barron Arts Center, 582 Rahway Ave. in Woodbridge, presents “The Barron Arts Center’s Artist of the Year Exhibit” featuring Enrique Zaldivar. Clinton Boy Scout Troop 121 had their Court of Honor on Monday, Oct. 2, at the Clinton Presbyterian Church, 91 Center St. Many Boy Scouts received merit badges and increased in rank. Withum promotions announced 

WithumSmith+Brown, PC (Withum), a Top 30 nationally ranked public accounting and advisory firm, has announced the promotion of nine employees based in its New Brunswick office to the positions of manager and supervisor. The three individuals named to manager include Ashley Caruso of Belle Mead, Jodi D. A reunion of the 39th Ordnance Group, US Army Reserve was held at The Café’ Agira Restaurant, 125 Washington Valley Road in Warren, on Saturday, Sept. 30. A group of former members, including commanders of the 39th were present and had the opportunity to gather and get reacquainted with friends they served with. NJPIRG students launch campaign 

Lawmakers have proposed an increase to the maximum award for Pell Grants, the nation’s largest need-based aid program, while simultaneously proposing cuts that would threaten the long-term viability of the program. The NJ Public Interest Research Group (NJPIRG) Student Chapters officially launched a campaign to Save the Pell Grant on Friday, Sept. 29. Visit http://njpirg.org.

Club to hold Harvest Dinner Dance

The Hungarian American Athletic Club will hold its annual Harvest Dinner Dance on Saturday, Oct. 7. The event will be in their ballroom at 233 Somerset St., New Brunswick. On Monday, Oct. 2, Carrier Clinic hosted its annual Shatter the Stigma Golf Classic at Basking Ridge Country Club. Nearly 90 supporters played golf to raise $51,000 to support the Belle Mead-based nonprofit mental health and addiction recovery facility. Piscataway Township Schools’ bond rating has been upgraded to AA by S&P Global Ratings, the leading provider of data and business market analysis. Old Bridge library awarded grant

The Old Bridge Public Library has been awarded a grant from the New Jersey State Library (NJSL) to promote youth literacy in local barbershops with its “Fade to Books” program. The grant provides funds for books and bookshelves to be placed in barbershops, allowing barbers to encourage their young clients to select books to read while sitting in the waiting area or during their haircuts. Suitable new and gently used books will be provided for children up to age 12. Anthony’s Figaro Barbershop at 163 Texas Road, and Main St. Barbershop at 2577 County Road 516, both in Old Bridge, have agreed to partner with the library in this endeavor. They were filled with items that let them know how much the club respects the job that they do every day for the group and the community.
