HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Saturday afternoon Governor Dannel P. Malloy deployed additional National Guard resources to aid in the recovery efforts of Hurricane Maria.

Officials say the state deployed a second C-130H cargo plane and seven additional airmen from the 103rd Airlift Wing of the state’s National Guard to continue assisting with Hurricane Maria recovery efforts. They say the units were deployed from Bradley Air National Guard Base in East Granby Saturday afternoon.

State Officials say the crew will deliver supplies to St. Croix and San Juan, Puerto Rico, then from there they will fly to Georgia to be ready for any potential follow-up missions.

“Once again we have additional National Guard members who dropped everything at a moment’s notice to support those who live hundreds of miles away,” Governor Malloy said. “We continue to be in contact with our federal counterparts and emergency management officials in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands as recovery efforts continue. I thank the Connecticut National Guard for their continued efforts in aiding our friends to the south.”

Governor Malloy deployed troops Friday morning to deliver supplies to St. Thomas and Puerto Rico. Officials say those crews are standing by in Georgia for potential follow-up missions.
