Cuban Triple Jumpers Qualified for the FinalsHAVANA, Cuba, Aug 7 (acn) Cuba´s triple jump athletes qualified on Monday in the finals of the World Athletics Championship underway in London.

Cristian Napoles, Andy Diaz and Lazaro Martinez secured their presence in the finals to be held on Thursday. Napoles, with 17.06 meters was the first to qualify while Andy Diaz (16.96) and Lazaro Martinez jumped 16.66 joined the list of 12 finalists despite not reaching the 17 meters demanded in the modality.

US Chris Bernard (17.20) and World Olympic and World Champ Christian Taylor (17.15), achieved the best marks in the qualifying round, according to the website of the International Athletics Federation.

Meanwhile, Roxana Gomez from Cuba competed in the semifinals of the 400 meters with a time of 53.01 seconds and finished 5th in the race without advancing to the finals.

Zurian Hechavarria, ran the first heat of the qualifying heat in the 400 meters hurdle race, finishing 6th with a time of 56.44 seconds close to Meghan Beesley who qualified with a time of 56.41.

For the moment, Cuba has a bronze medal in the event that went to pole vault Yarisley Silva. Silva shared the bronze with Venezuelan Robeilys Peinado both with a jump of 4.65 meters.

Meanwhile, Cuban Yorgelis Rodriguez had an outstanding performance in the Heptathlon competition finishing in 4th place with a personal and national record of 6 thousand 594 points.
