Waqar Younis, the legendary Pakistani fast bowler, once said that 50 per cent of his wickets in international cricket would not have come if there was no Wasim Akram.

"It was because if Wasim took two wickets, I wanted to take three. Or if I took three, he wanted to take four. So there was always a very healthy rivalry between us. And the Pakistan team benefitted from it," Waqar once said.

Of course, that was the reason why Waqar and Wasim - the two Ws - formed one of the deadliest fast bowling partnerships in the world.

Their speed and reverse swing terrorised some of the best batsmen in the world in the 1990s.

Waqar has never missed a chance to pay a compliment to his partner Wasim - arguably the greatest left-arm fast bowler in cricket history.

But few days back Waqar went one step ahead on Twitter.

The former Pakistan captain said if he gets another chance in cricket, he will be glad to become Wasim Akram.

"90s" The Golden era of Pak????????Cricket..If I get another opportunity 2 choose who I want 2 be,,I'll say @wasimakramlive #TrueLegend #Respect," tweeted Waqar.

For the record, Wasim (919) and Waqar (789) took 1,708 wickets between them in international cricket.

But it was the pleasure of seeing them operate with the old ball that will remain etched in memory.
