CLP Brings Festive Joy to more than 200 Elderly Guests

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today hosted a Tuen Ng festival celebration in partnership with Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service for more than 200 senior citizens from the Sham Shui Po, Kwai Tsing, Tai Po, and Yau Tsim Mong districts as part of the company's Sharing the Festive Joy programme.

CLP Power Managing Director Mr Paul Poon, Elderly Commission Chairman Dr Lam Ching-choi, and Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mr Raymond Chiu along with CLP Power volunteers and management enjoyed a delicious lunch and rice dumplings with elderly guests who were also entertained with performances by the winning teams from the Please Come and Save the Earth Music Contest. The officiating guests joined in a drum beating performance to celebrate the festival while volunteers handed out pamphlets and gave energy saving tips to elderly guests to promote the smarter use of electricity at home.

CLP Power's Sharing the Festive Joy programme is now in its fourth year and is an accredited event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Mr Poon said: "CLP Power has worked with a variety of community partners over the past four years and has arranged festival lunches for around 2,700 elderly guests. We are firmly committed to generating clean energy and encouraging people through our public education programmes to use energy more efficiently and adopt greener, low-carbon lifestyles."

Dr Lam praised the programme for the care it extends to Hong Kong's senior citizens. "An increasing number of enterprises in Hong Kong are working with non- governmental organisations and local communities to offer activities and services for senior citizens in support of the government's policy of promoting care for the elderly," he said. "Today's event is a wonderful opportunity for senior citizens from different districts to spend time with young volunteers and share in the warmth and happiness of the festival."

CLP Power has launched a wide range of community projects in recent years, identifying social needs and devising tailor-made community programmes to support the underprivileged. As well as its Sharing the Festive Joy programme, CLP Power continues to run a popular Power Your Love programme, a world-first initiative that encourages customers to save energy and contribute to the well-being of society by transferring units of electricity saved to help people in need, including the elderly.
