Two people die in fiery crash near Attalla Saturday afternoon

Two people died in an Etowah County crash Saturday.

Trooper Curtis Summerville said John Clifton Daniels was driving his 2004 Ford truck when his truck left the roadway, hit a tree, and caught fire. Daniels, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene. Daniels was from Vandiver.

Laurie Brown Daniels, 57, was a passenger in the truck and was also pronounced dead at the scene. She was from Altoona.

Summerville said the crash happened at approximately 3:15 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 278 at mile marker 121, five miles west of Attalla.

Alabama State Troopers are investigating the incident.
