Toronto

Toronto’s seventh murder of 2017 came in the gunning down of a young man visiting a home in Greektown early Sunday.

Emergency personnel were called to Langford Ave. — in the Pape and Danforth Aves. Area – shortly after midnight and found the man laying on the street, just outside the home.

He would soon be pronounced dead in hospital.

Toronto Police had the driveway and backyard of 126 Langford cordoned off with crime-scene tape and the front door secured with a police seal.

A knife may have also been found at the scene.

Det. Sgt. Susan Gomes said the victim, Tyrone Tomlinson, 21, of Toronto, had a “relationship” with the home’s occupants but wouldn’t elaborate.

“At this stage, it’s unclear if, in fact, he was in the house,” said Gomes, adding that investigators have “spoken to someone in the home.”

Gomes wouldn’t say who.

Police are looking for a male suspect seen running from the scene. He is described as having a “dark complexion, dark clothing with a hood and possibly a knapsack.”

Neighbour Frank Switzer said a middle-aged woman, her young daughter, and the daughter’s toddler son live in the home, and that the toddler’s father is frequently seen there.

“I don’t know if (the father of the baby) lives there or not,” said Switzer, who described the dad as being in his 20s.

Neighbour John MacDonald lives next door to 126.

“I heard the bang, bang, bang...I thought someone was smacking on garbage bins,” MacDonald said.

Like Switzer, MacDonald couldn’t say if the toddler’s dad lives in the house, but that he is seen there often.

“He’s a very polite young man, well mannered. He’s not a punk. He’s not a gangs or guns kind of (person.)”
