Victim in fatal Little Ferry fire identified

LITTLE FERRY -- The victim in a house fire Wednesday has been identified as a 64-year-old man, police said.

Ram Iyer, who owned 47 Pickens St., was found dead in the second floor of the home Wednesday morning. Other members of the family were on vacation when the fire broke out.

Witnesses said the two-story home was engulfed in flames by 8 a.m. despite the rapid response of Little Ferry volunteer firefighters.

Police said the investigation into the fire turned up nothing suspicious and foul play is not suspected in Iyer's death. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, police also said.
