UPDATE (Dec. 5, 2016): Sheriff's officials identified the Mustang's driver as 49-year-old Allen Brotzman. Officials confirmed Tuesday that Brotzman is suspected of driving under the influence but has not been arrested or charged.

POWAY, Calif. - All lanes of SR-67 were closed just after 6 p.m. Monday, after a head-on collision at Scripps Poway Parkway.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, a black Ford Mustang driving southbound on state Route 67 made an illegal U-turn to head back northbound near the intersection of Iron Mountain Road around 5:24 p.m.

A Ford Fusion heading northbound struck the black Mustang, and a Toyota Highlander heading northbound also struck the Fusion. The driver of the Mustang was pulled from the collision by a passerby when the Mustang caught on fire. The driver of the Mustang, a 49-year-old man, sustained a serious injury and was airlifted to Palomar Hospital in Escondido.

The extent of the injury is not known at this time. Two of the drivers from the other vehicles were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. There was a minor non-injury collision between two unrelated vehicles on the southbound side of the road near the original collision.

During the investigation, SR-67 was closed off from Poway Road to Scripps Poway Parkway in both directions. Caltrans, CHP, Cal Fire, Poway Fire Department and Ramona Fire Department also responded to the collision. State Route 67 was opened up at 9:30 p.m. for all traffic.

Deputies told 10News this is a suspected DUI incident. The Poway Traffic Division is conducting the ongoing investigation.
