27th Arab Summit kicks off in Nouakchott

The 27th Arab summit kicked off in Nouakchott, Mauritania, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, who leads the UAE delegation.

During the two-day summit and after assuming its presidency from the Arab Republic of Egypt, President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, confirmed that the Arab Nation is facing huge challenges, especially the Palestinian cause, which is the first Arab issue. He also noted that the region would not be stable unless the Palestinian cause is solved.

Speaking about a number of issues facing the Arab Nation, he said, "The crises facing the Arab countries need overall solutions." He also stressed that terrorism is deemed one of the challenges facing the Arab Nation and also represents a global challenge and requires a collective strategy to be eradicated.

Regarding Yemen, the Mauritanian President added that political consensus keeps Yemen united, while lauding the role of the State of Kuwait to host the Yemeni peace consultations.

He also noted that in Syria there is no alternative for a political agreement, and stressed the need to support Libyan efforts to achieve consensus that would end the crisis.

The delegation accompanying Sheikh Hamad includes Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy; Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, Director of the Fujairah Amiri Diwan; Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, the UAE Ambassador to Egypt, and Permanent Representative to the Arab League; Saif Sultan Al Samahi, Adviser to the Ruler of Fujairah, and Isa Abdullah Masoud Al Kalbani, UAE Ambassador to Nouakchott.
