Impala Saracens staged an extra-ordinary comeback as they rallied from 6-24 down to silence Homeboyz 32-29 in a pulsating Kenya Cup league match at Impala Sports Club on Saturday.

Substitute forward Duncan Ekasi sneaked in from a maul, nailing down the winning try for the bonus-point victory that saw Impala enhance their tally to 41 points from eight wins and two losses.

“(Left wing Ian) Mijire’s try was the game changer as reserves (Mohammed) Omollo and Ekasi brought in the impetus,” said Impala director of coaching Fred Ollows as Homeboyz coach Will Webster cited “lack of maturity” as their main undoing.

Neighbours Kenya Harlequin continued to exert pressure on Impala at the top, also coming from behind for a bonus-point 35-21 win over Nondescripts at the RFUEA grounds. Quins are however adrift of Resolution Insurance-sponsored Impala on aggregate.

TWO BONUS POINTS

Homeboyz, who went into the weekend third after their previous 27-22 win over Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), dropped to fourth but two bonus points from an Impala loss improved their count to 36 points.

But it was KCB who benefited the most as they recovered from a Homeboyz defeat to thrash Thika 58-0 in one of the double-headers at Nakuru Athletics Club. The bankers scaled one rung to third place, though on similar points with Homeboyz.

Nakuru squandered a 13-7 halftime lead at home to go down 26-33 to visiting Kabras Sugar. The hosts slumped to sixth with 31 points after surrendering their fifth-place ranking to Strathmore Leos, who roared past Mean Machine 68-10 in Kabete to improve their tally to 34 points.

Mwamba remained seventh with 31 points after edging out Western Bulls 36-10 at Railway Nairobi. Kabras improved their tally to 30 points but remained eighth, six points ahead of Nondies, as Western Bulls sealed the top 10 on 20.
