HILO, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - A major road closure will be in place Monday as state crews continue recovery efforts following Tropical Storm Lane.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation said over the weekend an emergency closure was needed for repairs to be completed to Kapue Bridge. Hawaii Belt Road, or Route 19, in Papaikou will be closed on Monday at the 6.5 mile marker from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Major damage to the structure's concrete footing was reported during last month's storm.

North and southbound traffic will be detoured to the county route Papaikou Mill Road during the 3-hour closure.

Vehicles weighing over 10 tons will be forced to find alternative routes as the detour has a vehicle weight limit of 20,000 pounds.

The work will take place weather permitting, officials say.
