WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH)– Willimantic Police arrested a North Windham man Thursday for allegedly assaulting another man and threatening him with a gun back in December.

Police say Hewaad Niazi was arrested on charges stemming from a December 2017 incident. Officers had responded to a damage to a vehicle complaint when they later discovered that a man had been assaulted and threatened with the use of a firearm. The victim also had cash removed from his person during the struggle.

The victim was taken to Windham Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, Niazi was one of the three men involved in the incident. He was charged with kidnapping, robbery, assault, and criminal mischief.

Additionally, during Niazi’s arrest, police say they found a weapon inside of his car. He was then also charged with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Niazi was held on a $10,000 bond and will appear in court on February 22nd.

The incident remain under investigation.
