HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal is calling on portable generator companies to create stronger safety measures in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
Nine people have died and at least six dozen others have suffered carbon monoxide poisoning in the past eight years alone.Related Content: Preparing for Connecticut’s next hurricane
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reported 659 deaths were caused by portable generators.
The commission found that most of those deaths occurred during power outages from hurricanes or other natural disasters.
