Liverpool cruised to victory in Slovenia after a dominating performance against Maribor.

They were ahead inside four minutes through Roberto Firmino and it wasn't too long before Philippe Coutinho added another.

Mohamed Salah was causing Maribor all sorts of problems and added a third on 19 minutes.

The Egyptian made it four shortly before the break as he finished following good work down the left.

Roberto Firmino nodded in a fifth soon after half-time before Liverpool added some gloss to the scoreline.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain raced onto Daniel Sturridge's pass for his first goal for his new club and Trent Alexander-Arnold added a seventh.

Maribor: Handanovic, Milec, Rajcevic, Suler, Viler, Kabha, Vrhovec, Bohar, Ahmedi, Kramaric, Tavares

Subs: Obradovic, Billong, Palcic, Pihler, Hotic, Vrsic, Mesanovic

Liverpool: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lovren, Moreno, Milner, Wijnaldum, Can, Salah, Coutinho, Firmino

Subs: Mignolet, Gomez, Klavan, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Solanke, Sturridge

That makes it a record European away win.

Yet more woeful defending from Maribor and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is off the mark.

He races through on goal and slots into the bottom corner.

So, so easy.

Chance for Daniel Sturridge now.

He replaces Roberto Firmino for the final 20 minutes.

The England striker could really do with a goal.

We expected Klopp to make some changes and he has given Salah a rest.

The Egyptian has been excellent tonight.

An opportunity for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain tonight.

A goal and a half for Salah and Firmino?

They both celebrated Liverpool’s fourth but it was probably the former’s.

Liverpool continue to attack here, too.

How many more will they get?

It’s all too easy for Liverpool at the moment.

The score in tonight’s other game is 1-1.

Liverpool are very well-placed as things stand.

Too easy for Liverpool

A quarter of the game gone and Liverpool are in cruise control.

Jurgen Klopp will be given chance to rest some of his players here.

They’re at Tottenham on Sunday.

Salah makes it three!

This is getting embarrassing.

And if Liverpool continue, this will be as many as they want.

Two easy for the Reds!

That is absolutely delightful.

Liverpool are cruising and Coutinho has scored in another away game.

The move was excellent and Milnet gets in down the right.

He crosses to the back post where Coutinho fires into the net.

Fine goal.

Perfect start for Liverpool!

It’s a gift too as Maribor lose possession through Suler.

Salah capitalises and slides the ball across for Firmino, who can’t miss.

That will do!

We are under 10 minutes away from kick-off in Slovenia.

Liverpool need a win from this one.

Will they get it?

Firmino forgets his pass

Roberto Firmino was left red-faced ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Maribor.

The Reds are in Slovenia for a must-win Group E clash after drawing their first two encounters.

Firmino starts for the visitors but his night didn’t get off to the best of starts.

As his teammates stepped off the bus and entered the stadium, the Brazilian was stopped by security.

Why? He had only gone and forgotten his ID.

Greetings

He has already been judged by social media – an expensive flop, naturally – and even ridiculed by a vicious, if tiny, element of his own support.

Yet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is about to show why Liverpool paid so much money for his special talent, according to his manager Jurgen Klopp... who is ready to unleash him for his first Champions’ League start in a Reds shirt.

So far, the former Arsenal man has played a role for his new club that is more camouflaged than cameo, such has been the rarity of his sightings at Anfield.

He has made just one start for Liverpool since his £35m transfer window arrival, in the Carabao Cup, and a total of just 86 minutes in all other competitions, over the course of six fleeting substitute appearances.

It is fair to say he made little impact in those games, but after showing more energy and incision in his 12 minutes against Manchester United at the weekend, Klopp was confident the versatile new signing has finally arrived.

“I cannot say how happy I was to see Chambo playing like this. I said he needed a little bit of time and my most positive thing was that finally he has arrived, but it always takes time,” Klopp said after the improved United display.

“I really loved the performance when he came on. He is a big signing for us, obviously, but a fast player like him needs the circumstances to perform so he needed time.”
