TAMBUNAN: The people are urged to support the policies introduced by the government.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the government was always committed to giving the best to the people, and as citizens their support is urgently needed.

“Sentiments that hate the government, especially baseless allegations, have to be rejected because many of the allegations are more of an expression of dissatisfaction,” he said in his speech when opening the district’s KRT Unity Kaamatan Raya here on Friday.

He said this would not help with development because all the allegations were personal or from groups who wanted to bring down the government.

Pairin, who is also the Infrastructure Development Minister, said the people should be more mature in evaluating all these issues and examine them wisely.

“We should not forget that political stability, social prosperity and economic growth that we enjoy today is a government effort.

“This effort should continue to be supported for sustainable development in the future,” he said.

Pairin was confident that the community’s cooperation and involvement in the success of unity programs was a sign that  solidarity was still thick among the people of this state.

Pairin said unity in the state, particularly in the district, was well known and was widely supported by evidence that it has no significant racial and religious issues in the state.

He said Muslims, non-Muslims and the Chinese community can sit down and eat at tables at a restaurant, and unity in Sabah can be seen through intermarriages.

Pairin, who is also Tambunan assemblyman, said it was just 12 years when KRT was establishment in this district, and during that period, it was enough to re-evaluate the effectiveness of this body as a leader of unity.

Pairin described the event as a thanksgiving celebration for the Kaamatan Festival, and for the Muslims who celebrated Hari Raya Aidilfitri, for their success in fasting for a month.

He said the people of this country were lucky to be able to celebrate various cultural and religious festivals without obstacles and regardless of race, culture and religion.

Pairin urged the people to continue to defend the spirit of goodwill for the future generations.

Also present at the ceremony were the political secretary to the Ministry of Energy Green Technology and Water Datuk Daniel Kinsik, director of the State National Unity and Integration Department Delin Liet Blaun, political secretary to the Infrastructure Development Ministry Welfredoline Jakil, SAFA deputy president Datuk Lawrence Gimbang, District Officer Thomas Logijin, District Chief OKK Philip Datuk Kitingan and Tambunan Community Development Leader Silverius Bruno.
