Sultan's supercar: One of the Sultan of Brunei’s SEVEN custom-ordered Ferrari F40s for sale in the UK for £2MILLION
- The Ferrari F40 is just one of seven ever built with the steering wheel on the right hand side
- All right hand driver examples were built for the Sultan of Brunei who has a collection of 5,000 motors
- Just two F40s from his garage have ever been available for sale in the UK, both sold by Talacrest in Ascot
- The supercar dealer wants £2million for the ultra-rare car, which has covered less than 7,000 miles from new
The Ferrari F40 is one of the most iconic - and rare - supercars of all time, which is why you'll need to stump-up a seven figure sum if you can track one down today.
But this example is more special than most - it's one of just seven right-hand drive versions created by special request for the Sultan of Brunei and only the second to be sold in the UK.
If you want it, it won't come cheap - a specialist Ferrari dealership in Ascot has it up for sale for a whopping £2million.
Sultan's supercar: Ferrari only ever built the F40 in left-hand drive, though it did create seven right-hand drive models exclusively for the Sultan of Brunei. This is one of them
The F40, built from 1987 to 1992, is fondly remembered as the first production car capable of eclipsing 200mph.
Fitted with a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an output of 500bhp and made of lightweight composite parts, it is recognised as one of the greatest performance cars to ever grace tarmac.
Among its many admirers is the Sultan of Brunei, a world-renowned car enthusiast who has amassed a reported 5,000 high-value cars over the years.
He persuaded Pininfarina to build seven right-hand drive F40s for his own personal collection in the late '80s, though experts suspect 10 were created in total.
Each one was different, with this one - chassis number 91283 - ordered in a one-off gunmetal grey colour, since changed.
It, along with another from his collection, was brought over to England in the 1990s by supercar dealer John Collins, who runs the Talacrest Ferrari dealership in Berkshire.
The F40 is one of the most iconic supercars of all time. It was the first production car capable of breaking the 200mph barrier with a top speed 1mph higher than the landmark figure
This car has been for sale in the UK before when it was grey, though the latest owner has had it professionally resprayed in traditional Ferrari red
Behind the driver's seat is a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing a monstrous 500bhp
Both examples sold almost immediately, though this one has recently come back into Talacrest's stock and is now being advertised for £2 million having had a complete respray in factory Ferrari red and treated to a £116,000 restoration.
Collins, who is renowned as one of the biggest Ferrari dealers in the UK and has sold more than 1,700 Ferraris in his time at the helm of Talacrest, said: 'It is one of only two right-hand drive F40s in private hands and the only one you can physically buy. It is in mint condition.
'The F40 was a landmark not just on account of its crushing performance and stunning looks, but it was fittingly the last ever car presented by Enzo Ferrari.
The Sultan of Brunei reportedly has a car collection made up of 5,000 exotic motors
The car is presented in concours condition having covered just 6,385 miles from new.
Want it? You'll have to hand over £2million if you want to get your hands on this piece of supercar history
'Everyone wants an F40 in right-hand drive but Pininfarina only made seven. They were ordered by the Sultan of Brunei and I brought two to the UK.
'This will be the third time I've sold this model and it has always commanded a premium.'
The car is presented in exquisite condition and has covered just 6,385 miles from new.
