Hannah Hamm uses a simple approach when she’s at the plate for the Edgewood softball co-op team: Be confident and aggressive.
“I had some problems with my swing earlier in the season with transferring my weight from the back foot onto my front foot to get more power, so I have been working with my dad, who is my hitting coach, to make my swing better,” Hamm said. “I am so glad to see my work pay off.”
She went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and drove in five runs in a 14-4 six-inning win over East Madison United.
“I didn't even know that I got five RBIs against East Madison United until my dad told me after the game,” Hamm said. “I was just focusing on making good contact and hitting the ball in the gaps that I saw.”
She had another double and RBI in a 2-for-4 effort at the plate to help the Crusaders beat Baraboo 8-2.

Maddie Swiggum’s power shown for Mount Horeb
Maddie Swiggum helped Mount Horeb run its winning streak to eight games with her bat.
“A lot of it has been seeing the ball pretty well,” Swiggum said. “My first at-bat has always been not good, and I’ve been able to bounce back this week pretty well, especially with two-strike hitting. I’ve done pretty well with that."
Swiggum went 3 for 4 with three RBIs in a 9-5 victory over Reedsburg last week. She had a run-scoring double to center in the fourth to make it 7-2 and a two-run single to center to make it 9-4 in the sixth.
Swiggum showed her power with a home run and double, going 3 for 4 with two RBIs in a 10-0 victory over Portage later in the week. Her homer led off the third to make it 4-0.
“It really was (exciting) because the first pitch she threw me was a changeup not in the strike zone and it was called a strike,” Swiggum said about her at-bat that resulted in a home run, her third of the season. “The second pitch she threw me was up and in, and I went with it. I didn’t really expect it to go out. I didn’t think it had enough umph to it.”
Swiggum wrapped up her week with another double, which drove in a pair, in a 10-3 victory over Baraboo.

Sun Prairie West’s Natalie Sozio homers against Madison Memorial
Natalie Sozio homered, doubled and drove in five runs to help Sun Prairie West edge Madison Memorial 14-12 last week.
Her three-run homer in the seventh gave the Wolves a 14-11 lead.
