Fay Jacobs to sign ‘Big Girls Don’t Fry’ April 26 at convention center

April 17, 2024

Humorist and author Fay Jacobs is back to make people laugh just when everyone needs it.

To celebrate the publication of Jacobs’ sixth and final book in the hilarious “Frying” series, Browseabout Books will host her for a book signing at 11 a.m., Friday, April 26, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, 226 Rehoboth Ave. Rehoboth Beach.

Titled “Big Girls Don’t Fry – Rehoboth Beach Wrap-Up“ and published by Bywater Books, this collection offers Jacobs’ signature laugh-out-loud commentaries since 2016 (what could she have to comment about since then?) plus some new material. Her columns have appeared in Delaware Beach Life and Letters from CAMP Rehoboth magazines.

Her work has also been published in The Washington Post, The Advocate magazine, Delaware Today, The Baltimore Sun and many more.

Jacobs has been the recipient of numerous writing awards, including nearly annual accolades from the National Association of Press Women for her humor columns. She has won awards from the International Rainbow Awards, American Library Association and Independent Publishers Book Awards.

Like the author’s previous award-winning books, “Big Girls” includes her commentaries on a long list of varied subjects. This time it’s on issues like FedExing saliva to Ancestry.com, the awesome Parisian Gay Games, and contracting a disease called Boop which shouldn’t have been a laughing matter but somehow was. Jacob tackles topics like indoor skydiving, Rehoboth’s downtown beverage crawls, and the fresh hell of self-checkout and seniors bagging groceries. And she still has a lot to say about aging gracelessly, the conundrum of hearing aids and meeting her friends at physical therapy clinics instead of dance clubs.

Taken individually, these universally relatable stories are truly funny and occasionally heartfelt because they’re all true to life. Collectively, this book, like her others, is a rainbow-colored history of her beloved Rehoboth and environs. Her fans are as diverse a group as one will find in Sussex County and nationwide.

Book-signing attendees can meet the author, have some laughs and get their hands on the newest collection, “Big Girls Don’t Fry – Rehoboth Beach Wrap-Up.” “Oh, “ said Jacobs, “and there will be cookies.”
