Chevron Pascagoula donates Mobile Command Vehicle to Jackson County Sheriff’s Department
PASCAGOULA, Miss. – April 2024 – Chevron’s Pascagoula Refinery has donated its Mobile Command Vehicle to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
The MCV is a specially equipped vehicle that can serve as a mobile command center in emergency situations.
The MCV was donated in April to representatives from the Sheriff’s Department, who expressed their excitement for the new resource. “There are definitely instances where we can put this to use,” said Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter, “We appreciate the partnership between the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Chevron Refinery. And to maintain a good relationship, that’s basically what law enforcement is about, it’s about caring and it’s about relationships with the community.”
The MCV was purchased by Chevron in 2008, to enhance preparedness for storm response after the impacts of Hurricane Katrina. It includes a conference room and workstations, and can function as a communications hub for various agencies. The MCV has been deployed over the years to support other Chevron locations, such as Houston after Hurricane Harvey and the Florida panhandle after Hurricane Michael. However, Chevron’s needs changed over the years as technology, emergency response and the industry evolved.
Chevron Pascagoula Emergency Services Manager, Daniel Kennedy, said donating the vehicle to the Sheriff’s Department was a logical decision. “We felt like, what’s a way we could partner with the community, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, in particular? Maybe they can use it more than we do and get more value out of it. We’ve had a long partnership with the Jackson County Sherrif’s Office, a great relationship over the years, and this is a great way for us to give back to the community,” said Kennedy.
