On Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, the Burns Lacrosse team traveled to the Portland area to play 6A Forest Grove and 5A Hillsboro High Schools.

In the first game, Burns fell to the Forest Grove Vikings, 12-2. “We didn’t play that bad of a game, the Forest Grove goalie was very good and we just couldn’t beat him. This kid, a freshman, is really solid and well coached. We had some very good scoring chances, but we couldn’t get the ball past him. Eventually, the Vikings took control and just slowly pulled away” said head coach Rick Roy. The Vikings controlled face-offs, winning 14 of 18, Burns picked up 23 loose balls to Forest Grove’s 24, and put 10 shots on goal out of 18 total shots to Forest Grove’s 24 shots on goal out of 32 total shots.

Solomon Kennedy scored both goals for Burns, while Jr. Raif and Lucian Miller each had an assist. Tyzon Schultz stopped 12 of 24 shots on goal for a 50 percent save percentage.

On Saturday’s afternoon game, Burns played against the Hillsboro High School Spartans and came out on the losing side, 15-9. Roy said, “This game was tied at halftime, but we let it slip away in the third quarter. We played better in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late. As a team, we have to learn to play all four quarters.”

The Spartans dominated possessions by dominating the face-off dot, winning 25 of 29 face-offs and picking up 44 ground balls to our 12. Burns had a total of 25 shots, 18 were on goal compared to 38 total shots and 29 on goal.  Solomon Kennedy scored six goals, Alex Trent had two goals and two assists, Del Marsh had a goal and three assists, Juaquine Smartt had an assist.
