International News: Migrants at U.S.-Mexico border prepare to camp for cold Christmas

Posted: Saturday, December 24, 2022. 9:44 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Hundreds of migrants are preparing to camp for a freezing Christmas at Mexico’s border with the United States, Reuters report.

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that restrictions known as Title 42 could stay in place temporarily.

The families are bracing for the cold weather coming in with tents.

Temperatures in Matamoros and Reynosa where they are camping are expected to reach around freezing on Saturday and only slightly improve on Sunday.

Mexican officials are also accommodating migrants at shelters.

Title 42 allows the United States to return migrants to Mexico or certain countries without a chance to request asylum.
