Joe Biden won Hawaii’s delayed Democratic presidential primary Saturday, pulling the presumptive nominee closer to officially clinching the race.

Biden defeated Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders 63% to 37% in the balloting, which was delayed by the pandemic and held by mail. Sanders dropped out of the race last month.

Biden earned 16 delegates in the Aloha State and now has 1,566 total, according to The Associated Press. He needs 1,991 to seal the nomination.

The primary was to be held April 4, but the coronavirus crisis pushed the Democratic Party of Hawaii to cancel all in-person voting.

The mail-in deadline was Friday.

Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard dropped out of the race March 19 after lodging a long-shot candidacy. She endorsed Biden.
