President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian today hosted Japanese scientist, Professor of Carnegie Mellon University, author of the Origami World Theory and creator of the Virtual Reality concept Takeo Kanade, who has received the State Award of Armenia for his global contributions to the IT sector, reports the news service of the Staff of the President of Armenia.

President Sarkissian congratulated the Japanese scientist and particularly said the following: “After having done so much for the development of technologies, the question for you is what is next. I am glad that Armenia is currently in a period of becoming a technological hub. The presidential institution is going to do its best to support the development of technologies. Armenia has its own initiative that is referred to as ATOM Scientific and Technical Center. We have invited several large companies, and I believe they can develop artificial intelligence and be involved in mathematical modeling.”

President Sarkissian said he had had a meeting with the leadership of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries during his visit to Japan and the parties had considered the opportunity of implementing a joint project in Armenia.

Takeo Kanade expressed gratitude for the high appreciation of his work and stated that he is impressed by Armenia and Armenians. The world renowned scientist said he believes Armenia has a big future in the field of high technology.

The Armenian president and Japanese scientist also talked about cooperation in the field of latest technologies and the opportunities for scientific and educational programs and student exchanges, and President Sarkissian invited Takeo Kanade to attend the Armenian Summit of Minds to be held in Armenia next year.
