There were high hopes for the summer transfer window but so far, the biggest new signing on the Real Madrid squad is Eden Hazard. Sadly, the club announced on Friday that their new forward has suffered a hamstring injury and will likely be out of action for a few weeks.

In an official announcement, Real Madrid confirmed Hazard's medical status: "After the tests carried out after training today on our player Eden Hazard by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to the anterior part of his right thigh. His recovery will continue to be assessed." (The Spanish version of the announcement stated that the injury is on his left thigh).

In light of the setback, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is left with some big decisions for Saturday's opening game against Celta Vigo. It is widely believed that apart from Hazard, he had wanted to sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United and Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain. However, both deals have fallen through and the summer transfer window will be open for only two more weeks.

He is now left with a squad that is populated by players that he has hardly included in his preseason preparations. He will have to rely on both Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, two players that the club have openly tried to offload in the past several months.

Colombian National Team captain James Rodriguez did not participate in any preseason match after returning from a loan spell with Bayern Munich. "He's fit and I'm happy to have him in the squad. I will repeat what I said the other day, I will have everyone available. They're also happy to be here," said Zidane.

After a disastrous 2018/19 season, Los Blancos are looking forward to a positive start. They have already suffered an injury setback but it remains to be seen what will happen tonight.
