Bravehearts in Zone VI Basketball good start

Malawi’s ambassadors Bravehearts on Sunday started with victories in both men’s and women’s categories at the 2018 International Basketball Federation (Fiba) Africa Club Championship qualifiers in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

They thumped their hosts Foxes 77-49 and Vixens 70-61, respectively, at Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.

Bravehearts women team started with victory

“The wins in our opening games have boosted our morale as we continue to fight for qualification. Both our teams put up a gallant fight and we are happy with the results so far,” said Bravehearts communications manager Deliwe Lungu.

Malawi’s other representatives Central Knights were yet to play their first game as we went to press yesterday.

Bravehearts men are in group A alongside Zimbabwe champions Foxes, Mozambique winners Fereviaro de Maputo and Angola’s Peteromac while Knights are in group B with Zimbabwe’s Hornets, Angola’s Gosto and Mozambique’s Fereviaro de Beira.

The ladies category has Malawi’s Bravehearts women, Vixens and Lakers of Zimbabwe and Angola’s Interclub.

Central Knights team manager Barlet Mafuleka said they hoped to qualify for the finals of the Afro League.

Two top teams in both the men and women’s categories will make it to the finals of the continental club competition’s first edition in Mozambique on November 9.
