Police seize RM1 mln drugs, luxury cars, jewellery, cash in raids

JOHOR BAHRU: Police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate with the arrest of 14 individuals and the seizure of various types of drugs worth RM1 million and drug-related assets worth RM2 million via raids in several districts in the state, from Oct 12 to Oct 14.

Bukit Aman Narcotics CID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said the suspects, nine men and four women who are locals and an Indonesian man, all aged between 26 and 39 years, were arrested in a series of raids conducted from 8.30 pm, Friday to 10.30 pm, Sunday.

He said the raids and inspections were carried out at Jalan Teluk Buloh and Jalan Melur near Batu Pahat; Taman Austin Perdana, Bandar Baru Uda, Iskandar Puteri and Horizon Hills, here; Taman Renggam Jaya near Simpang Renggam and at Mersing Jetty.

“Besides a 34-year-old woman who was detained in Bandar Baru Uda, believed to be the queen-pin of the syndicate, police also arrested a man in Taman Renggam Jaya believed to be the leader of Gang 36 in Johor.

“The woman was detained under Section 6 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 while the man has several drugs and criminal records related to the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) and the Security Offences (Special Measures ) 2012,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Mohmad said, a man arrested in Horizon Hills also had a drug record and was wanted by the Indonesian police for escaping from a prison in Bengkalis, Riau, Indonesia.

He added that the seizure included drugs suspected to be syabu (16 kilogrammes), heroin (six kg),  ketamin (250 grammes), 97 ecstasy pills, 12 yaba pills and an Eramin 5 pill all estimated to be worth RM1 million.

He said police also confiscated nine cars comprising a Jaguar XF, Toyota Vellfire, BMW, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton, Honda Accord, two Perodua Myvi and a Proton Wira.

Also seized were a Yamaha R1 motorcycle, RM127,000 in cash, Indonesian Rupiah 34.5 million (RM9, 418) also in cash, watches and jewellery all estimated to be worth RM2 million.

“Police believe the drugs were being supplied to neighbouring countries and that all the drugs here are enough for the consumption of 85,000 drug addicts,” he said.

According to Mohmad, all the suspects have been remanded until Thursday to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. — Bernama
