Tier 2 wrap: Romania stun Samoa, Japan smash Tonga

Romania, Uruguay, USA and Japan claimed wins over Samoa, Namibia, Germany and Tonga respectively in November Test action on Saturday.

Romania 17-13 Samoa

Romania claimed an historic 17-13 victory over Samoa at Stadionul National Arcul De Triumf in November Test action on Saturday.

Florin Vlaicu opened Romania’s November test scoring account with his boot after 17 minutes before Tim Nanai-Williams responded with a penalty in the 34th minute.

Soon after, Motu Matu’u went over at the back of a well-worked Samoan lineout driving maul with the visitors taking a 10-3 lead in to the interval.

However, in the second half Romania turned the tables through their forward dominance as they scored through Andrei Radoi and Ionel Badiu both times through well-worked lineout driving mauls showing their power in the forward pack department to claim the victory 17-13.

Uruguay 52-36 Namibia

Uruguay won 53-26 against Namibia in a high-scoring encounter at Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium in November Test action on Saturday.

Tries from Federico Favaro, Rodrigo Silva and an Alejandro Nieto Darryl de la Harpe, Rohan Kitshoff saw the visitors take a
32-17 lead in to the interval.

And the away side continued to assert their dominance after the break when Nieto grabbed his hat-trick.

JC Greyling, AJ de Klerk and Johann Tromp scored to bring Namibia back in to the game trailing at 38-34.

But Uruguay put the game beyond doubt with two late tries.

Germany 17-46 USA

The United States of America secured a comprehensive 46-17 victory over Germany at Brita Arena, Wiesbaden in November Test action on Saturday.

Tries from Blaine Scully, Joe Taufete’e, Shaun Davies, Ryan Matyas, Alan MacGinty and Peter Malcolm proved too much for Germany who scored through Ayron Schramm and Winston Cameron-Dow.

Japan 39-6 Tonga

Japan earned a stylish 39-6 win over Tonga in November Test action at Stade Ernest-Wallon in Toulouse on Saturday.

Tries from Michael Leitch, Kenki Fukuoka, Amanaki Mafi and a Lomano Lemeki brace proved too much for tryless Tonga who scored via two Sonatane Takulua penalties.
