Reader meets a Hispanic man who loves Donald Trump

Dear John: Yesterday I went to the Dunkin’ Donuts corner in Stamford to pick up a day worker for a semiannual yard cleanup.

Twenty bucks an hour. Two or three hours, then a trip to the dump.

I picked up a Honduran man, about 55. Franco was his name. On the short trip to the house, I asked how he was doing.

“Fine,” was the quick reply. Just for fun, I said, “How do you like the president?”

“Fantastic,” he said. I asked why.

“I work every day now. For the last few years, maybe three days a week.

“Everybody working. Very good, very good president,” Franco said. BC

Dear BC: Franco probably likes President Trump because he’s gotten rid of a lot of the competition from illegal workers. If Franco is himself an illegal and gets caught, he’s not going to like the president so much.

I’m not passing judgment here because — despite my kidding — it’s hard to find workers willing to do manual labor like yard work.

So what’s the answer? You will keep going to the Dunkin’ Donuts job fair until there are no more workers.
