Local church makes special delivery to Guatemala
Members of Hope City Church in south Louisville just returned from a mission trip to an orphanage in Guatemala. They went to perform service projects, but ended up delivering a special gift that made a big impact on the children.
"There's something really exciting about being an answer to someone else's prayer," said Pastor Jason Isaacs.
The church went to perform service projects at the orphanage.
"The main purpose of the trip was to help Casa Shalom with some security camera install. We ended up doing some painting down there also," said Jon Vibbert.
Each year, the church takes a group to the Casa Shalom orphanage. This was Taylor Vibbert's first time going.
"We ate dinner with them some nights, and we played soccer with them and just played games," said Vibbert.
Just before the trip, Thomas Noonan says he felt a nudge to bring one more surprise for the kids.
"I felt like God kind of put an idea on my heart, and I just kind of reached out to a colleague and said maybe it would be cool if we could get some jerseys or something for the kids. The kids love soccer," said Noonan.
Lou City donated soccer uniforms for them to take to Guatemala, but what the mission team learned when they got there was surprising.
"She walks past the bucket of jerseys and says, 'What is this? We were actually looking for jerseys this week, because the kids were trying to get into league play," said Noonan.
The mission team didn't know how many jerseys Lou City had donated. So, they counted them.
"There are 98 kids at the orphanage, and the people who donated the jerseys happened to give us 98 jerseys," said Isaacs.
Now, when the team takes the field, they'll have a little Lou City luck with them.
"For them to know now we have uniforms and we're actually going to get to play. It's priceless. It's absolutely priceless," said Kim Greenwood.
