Romania - Factors to watch on June 19

BUCHAREST, June 19 (Reuters) - Here are news stories, press reports and events to watch which may affect Romanian financial markets on Tuesday.

CRIMINAL CODE

Romania's lower house of parliament on Monday night approved amendments to the country's criminal procedure, which critics and the centrist opposition say would weaken prosecutors' powers to probe high level corruption.

The new penal handbook designed by the ruling Social Democrats was endorsed in a 175/78 vote by legislators in a speedy procedure. Opposition groups say they plan to challenge it at the constitutional court.

DEBT TENDER

Romania sold a lower than planned 319 million lei ($79.45 million) of March 2021 treasury bonds on Monday, with the average accepted yield at 4.05 percent, central bank data showed.

Debt managers last issued the bond in April 2017 at an average yield of 2.46 percent.

CEE MARKETS

The forint and Hungarian government bonds took a breather on Monday after last week's weakening, a day before a meeting of the National Bank of Hungary whose ultra-loose policy has come under fire as U.S. interest rates rise.
