Security Ministry redeems $42.7m performance bond under police car contract

The insurance company which held the $42.7 million performance bond by O'Brien's International Car Sale and Rental Limited has now paid over the money to the Ministry of National Security.
The payment was made after the ministry wrote three letters to the company demanding the money.
The ministry has been trying since last month to get to the company to pay over the money.
Meanwhile, Mikael Phillips, a member of parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee said the committee will continue to pay close attention to the contract as there are many unanswered questions.
The ministry called in the performance bond in light of the failure by O'Brien’s to fulfil the terms of the contract.
The company was awarded a contract to supply the ministry with 200 vehicles for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, but to date, only 30 vehicles have been delivered.
The contract has been embroiled in controversy.
