Ed Warinner will join Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s staff in an unspecified role, three sources confirmed to The Detroit News.

Warinner most recently was Minnesota’s offensive line coach and run-game coordinator.

Two sources on Friday told The Detroit News that Warinner could be joining the staff as a senior offensive analyst. Warinner would replace Scott Turner, who recently joined the Carolina Panthers staff.

Warinner spent five seasons at Ohio State before moving to Minnesota and P.J. Fleck’s staff. He was co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from 2012-14 and offensive coordinator/offensive line coach in 2015. During the 2016 season he was offensive coordinator and coached tight ends.

He has had a lengthy coaching career starting at Akron in 1984, then at Michigan State for two seasons coaching linebackers and the secondary, then from 1987-99 he was at Army, where he got his first experience those final two seasons as an offensive coordinator. Warinner also spent time at Air Force, Kansas, Illinois and two seasons (2010-11) coaching offensive line at Notre Dame. He also was run-game coordinator in 2011.

Warinner's son, Edward, is a three-star linebacker out of Ohio who signed in December to play football at Michigan State.
