NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH)– Five New Britain police officers have been placed on restricted duty following Thursday’s officer-involved shooting.
New Britain Police Chief James P. Wardwell released the names of the officers who he says discharged their firearms during the incident in the area of Chapman Street and Chapman Court.Related: State police identify man killed in New Britain police-involved shooting
Those officers are Detective Marcin Ratajczak, Detective Christopher Kiely, Officer Michael Slavin, Officer Kyle Jones and Officer Chad Nelson.
State Police say the officers attempted to stop a car, which was suspected in several violent carjackings and robberies in the city. Twenty-year-old Zoe Dowdell, of Bloomfield, was then killed after police say the driver of the car refused to stop the vehicle and drove towards officers. Wardwell says those officers will be placed on desk duty until the incident is investigated by the Connecticut State Police and a complete internal administrative investigation is conducted by New Britain Police. The Chief says the officers are fully cooperating with the investigation.
Police arrested a 15-year-old male and 18-year-old Noah Young, of Bloomfield, on several charges following the shooting.
