To the Editor:

Re “As New York’s Subways Falter, Commuters Take to the Water” (front page, Nov. 30):

The tremendous success of NYC Ferry service, launched earlier this year to connect transit-starved waterfront neighborhoods of our urban archipelago, is a part of the solution to grindingly long commutes.

But building on this big success raises big questions: How do we expand equitable transit choice to other shorefront communities like northeast Queens, southern Staten Island and Canarsie, Brooklyn? How do we devise a long-term subsidy that will keep ferries affordable?

And most important, how can we get the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to integrate waterborne transit within our varied network?
