Jersey City resident stars in production

Christopher Prozeller of Jersey City is starring in Studio Playhouse's "A Seussified Christmas Carol." Prozeller will star as the Bed-Headed Fred and Young Scooge.

Other Dr. Seuss characters will make appearances in the production including Things 1 and 2, Timmy Loo Hoo and more.

The performances will be on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. through Dec. 17. Tickets for the event are $8 and can be purchased online at studiohouse.org/tickets.

Hospital receives recognition for registries

Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center was recognized nationally for promoting enrollment in state organ registries. The hospital conducted awareness and registry campaigns in the last year.

These campaigns educated team members, patients, visitors and community members about the critical need for organs, eye and tissue donors. The president of the medical center, Dr. Anthony J. Passannante Jr. accepted the award on behalf of the hospital.

Jersey City library hosts post-Thanksgiving concert

The Miller Branch of the Jersey City Free Public Library hosted the 26th annual Day-After-Thanksgiving R&B Concert on Nov. 24. Over 200 people listened to Joe Bataan, Soul Generation featuring Cliff Perkins, PRIME and Tony Riley perform throughout the night.

Kearny bakery participates in Giving Tuesday

Feed Your Soul Bakery in Kearny participated in Giving Tuesday, which follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

On this day, the bakery packed 1,000 cookies to donate to the Coalition for the Homeless. The bakery also collected toys over the past month that were also donated to the Coalition for the Homeless.

Jersey City student organized blood drive

Hira Abbacy of Jersey City organized the biannual Red Cross Blood Drive at the Pennsylvania Biotech Park. Abbacy is a master of biomedical sciences student at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine at the Doylestown campus in Pennsylvania.

Union City after-school program receives grants

The Union City Music Project received about $20,000 in grants which will help pay for the 11 teaching artists who instruct the 100 kids in the program.

The group received $3,000 from the Provident Bank Foundation and the Frank and Lydia Bergen Foundation, $2,500 from the Edward E. Niles Foundation and $10,000 from the Turrell Fund.

The group provides free musical instruments and low-cost orchestral training along with regular performance opportunities for the children in the program. The program is also enhanced by a summer day camp, field trips, parent workshops, visiting artists and student mentors.

Freeholders apply for grant money, accept funds for program

The Hudson County Board of Freeholders have applied for a grant to cover social services programs throughout Hudson County. If accepted, the county will receive $1,708,319 to go towards serving those in need in the area. The contract term would begin on Jan. 1 and run until Dec. 31, 2018.

The board also accepted $69,950 from the Department of Children and Families. They will use the funds for the Human Services Advisory Council, Missing Children's Fund and Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program for 2018. The programs help at risk children throughout Hudson County. The programs will run from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2018.

Local student finishes master's studies

William Orrico of North Bergen is finishing his Master of Arts in Biology degree from Miami University in Ohio. He will finish his degree with Project "Dragonfly" which educates millions every year through learning media, public exhibits and graduate programs. Orrico took classes online while participating in on-site and field studies at Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo.

Scout troop learned from veterans on Veterans Day

The Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of Unit 305 in Kearny learned about the sacrifices veterans made from two local veterans. Keith McMillan, the Post Commander of American Legion Post 99, and SGM Jennifer Long, the Post Commander of VFW Post 1302, shared stories about their experiences in the military with the scouts.

The post commanders answered questions from the scouts, leaders and families about the equipment, technology and training they went through during their time in the U.S. Army. The scouts presented McMillan and Long with patches to thank them for their services.

Traffic calming devices approved for North Bergen

The Hudson County Freeholders approved traffic calming devices in North Bergen. "Do Not Block The Intersection" signs and markings will be placed at the intersection of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and 90th Street.
