The Vacaville Christian boys basketball team cruised to a 55-29 victory over Buckingham Wednesday night at Vaca Christian High School.
In the midst of a three-game losing skid after opening the season with a 46-43 win at home, the Falcons (2-3) took an early lead and withstood potential runs by the Knights behind a double-double effort from senior captain Adam Grabowski. Grabowski finished the cross-town matchup with a team-high 27 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
Head coach Davis Kuch was pleased with the overall effort his team showcased and feels that important strides were made in the home victory.
“This was a great opportunity for our team to develop our skills, communication and teamwork,” Kuch said.
Boys Basketball
Will C. Wood 54, Johnson 39 >> Wood trounced John High School Tuesday night with an impressive defensive effort.
The Wildcats (2-1) held the Warriors (0-4) to four points in the second and third quarters to garner a 23-point advantage at the start of the final quarter.
Wood senior Jay Nagle led the way in the scoring department with 15 points, while Ricky Holland finished the evening with 11 points. Landon Seaman added seven points and seven rebounds, with Michael Wudel logging six points in the wining effort.
Wood will return to the hardwood Thursday night in Grass Valley, Calif. as it takes on El Camino High School for its opening game of the Nevada Union Tournament.
Girls Basketball
Vacaville Christian 51, Buckingham 21 >> The Vacaville Christian girls’ backcourt found their groove Wednesday night versus Buckingham.
Addison Alsbury logged a season-high 12 points and added four assists and three steals. Fellow freshman backcourt mate Mirah Jackson chipped in 10 points and tallied a team-high four steals.
“It was really nice to see the freshman finally step up and put their imprint on the scoring column,” said head coach Mike Morris.
Rachel Everett was a force down low as she collected a game-high nine rebounds and scored six points in the blowout victory.
Boys Soccer
Davis 1, Vacaville 0 >> In a game that was tight from start to finish, the Vacaville Bulldogs were outlasted by the Davis Blue Devils Wednesday night at Davis High School.
After both teams were unable to find the net in the opening half, Davis (3-1-2) managed to find the back of the net en route to the 1-0 win over Vacaville (0-3-2).
Girls Soccer
Vanden 8, Napa 1 >> The Vikings offense stayed busy Wednesday night at Vanden High School.
Vanden’s Alexis “Moo” Coleman registered her first hat trick of the season and Meilani Cron scored a pair of goals for the Vikings. Pejalyn Balanon, Ally Casner and Kahyla Craven each scored a goal to help move Vanden to 2-2 on the season.
JV Girls Basketball
Lower Lake 47, Vacaville 31 >> Vacaville hosted Lower Lake Tuesday evening and suffered a 47-31 loss.
Birdy Simon led the Bulldogs (2-2) with 12 points in the loss. Rose Pace added seven points, Cassandra Browne scored six, and Samantha Brown rounded out the Bulldogs’ top scorers with four points..
Vacaville will enjoy a few days off before making the quick trek to Vanden High School on Tuesday.
