Liverpool broke Manchester United's long-standing Champions League record on Wednesday night with their 7-0 win over Spartak Moscow.

Under Jurgen Klopp, the Reds have become the highest scoring English club of all time in the Champions League group stages.

Liverpool netted 23 goals in their six European games this season, sharing Group E with Spartak Moscow, Maribor (who they also beat 7-0) and Sevilla.

The Red Devils held the previous record with 20, scoring those in 1998 on their way to winning the tournament.

Remarkably, United achieved the feat in a group that contained Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Brondby.

However, Liverpool missed out on being the highest scoring team in Europe by two goals. Paris Saint-Germain broke Borussia Dortmund's record of 21 by finding the back of the net 25 times in six games this season.
