MORE than 200 prototypes have completed 1.5 million miles and 11,000 hours of component rig testing - and now it’s the real thing.

Jag have taken their much anticipated all-electric SUV to California, the Golden State, for the final road tests.

They were asked specially by American Ann Voyer from Pasadena if their new baby would have enough range to complete her favourite road trip along the West Coast.

To show her it could, Jag’s engineers took her with them on the long range test on one charge only .

The I-PACE proved to be a real winner and completed the 200 mile journey.

Ian Hoban, Jaguar vehicle line director, said: “After 1.5 million global test miles, the I-PACE is ready for production and is proven to deliver long distances on a single charge.

“Jaguar’s first battery electric vehicle will also be fast to charge - our target is a zero to 80 per cent charge being achievable in a short break.”

Already thousands of customers have pressed the ‘I want one’ button to place a deposit or register an interest in the electric car.

Order books officially open in March but they will be at the front of the queue and a chosen few, like Ann. will accompany the car on its final validation tests.
