Famous, mysterious Downtown Indianapolis Cherub appears once again

Once again, the shoppers exploring Downtown Indianapolis have a watchful eye guarding them from above.

The Cherub appeared atop the old clock by Carson's Department Store around 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. It usually watches over Hoosiers from around this time in November until Christmas Eve, when Santa relieves the Cherub of its duties.

Legend has it, the Cherub first appeared atop the clock in 1947, when the company beside the clock was a department store called L.S. Ayres.

And every year, the Cherub has kept the tradition alive, watching over the folks downtown during the Circle of Lights and every other chilly day until Christmas Eve.
