10:20 a.m. Update:

Police have identified the man that caused a standoff incident involving S.W.A.T. to be called in and assist.

Chase Walters, 34, now faces multiple charges including assault after he was reported to be making threats with a knife at a Northwood Drive home.

In an updated police report, authorities say Walters was entering and exiting the house while holding a knife. KTUU photographers observed this behavior at the scene.

When Walters refused to leave, S.W.A.T. was called in and gas was deployed. He was then arrested and taken to jail.

4:00 a.m. Update:

The Anchorage Police Department, in an alert sent out through the Nixle system at 2:45 a.m., said the situation involving a barricaded person in Spenard and Northwood Drive has been resolved.

APD said that officers used gas near the area around 1:14 a.m. Friday morning. Nora Morse, a spokesperson with APD, said that the call came in from dispatch at 6 p.m.

"There's one adult male inside the apartment complex, looks like he has a knife, but there is no one inside with him," Morse said prior to the deployment of gas.

Multiple times, the suspect could be seen exiting the residence, standing on the doorstep, speaking loudly and gesticulating with his arms.

Further information, such as the identity of the man and what led to the incident, are still unknown.

Original Story:

Anchorage Police asked people Thursday night to avoid an area in Spenard as officers responded to a situation involving a barricaded person.

APD, in an alert sent out through the Nixle system, said there were several officers in the vicinity of Spenard Road and Northwood Drive.

In an email, APD spokesperson Nora Morse wrote "There is no threat to public safety. There are just a large number of officers on scene and we wanted to let people know we were in the area."

Morse added "officers are talking to the subject now trying to get them out."

There was no immediate word as to what started the incident.
