Creque chips in game-winner as football edges Florida State

Tied at 28 with nine seconds to go, Blanton Creque knocked in a 34-yard field goal from the right hash to give football a three-point road victory over Florida State.

A fumble from Florida State freshman quarterback James Blackman gave U of L the opportunity to score. With just under two minutes to play, Lamar Jackson drove the Cardinals eight plays and 59 yards to set up the game-winner.

Jackson ended the game with 156 yards through the air and 178 yards on the ground, which a touchdown on each. Reggie Bonnafon and Dae Williams also added rushing scores, combining for 115 yards on 21 carries.

In the second quarter, Florida State scored on a defensive touchdown to earn a 14-7 lead. U of L answered with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Jackson to Seth Dawkins.

Cornerback Trumaine Washington picked off Blackman late in the second quarter, setting Louisville up for a field goal attempt. Creque missed 45-yard field goal, his first on the year.

The Seminoles missed a field goal in their opening drive of the second half and Louisville marched down the field and scored. On FSU’s next play, Blackman threw his second pick to Washington.

Louisville scored on the next drive, making the lead 28-14 entering the fourth quarter.

Trailing by two scores, Florida State went for it on fourth down, but was stopped by the Cardinals. A roughing the passer kept the drive alive, and FSU scored on the next play. Trailing by seven, Blackman tied the game at 28 with a 20-yard touchdown strike with 8:58 to play.

Louisville had a chance to take the lead before Blackman’s late fumble, but were stopped on fourth down.

The Cardinals are now 5-3 and travel to Wake Forest on Oct. 28. Florida State falls to 2-4, their worst under coach Jimbo Fisher.
