Haiti - Justice : Signature of a Partial Agreement between the Executive and the Judiciary
Friday, the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ) has confirmed the signing on Thursday 19 of an agreement of principle with the Ministry of Justice "on the main claims of judges" of 18 jurisdictions of the country

Following the signing of this agreement, Me Wando Saint-Villier, the President of the Professional Association of Magistrates confirms that the judges have decided to observe a truce while waiting to see if the Executive executes its commitments in the month of November as provided for in the agreement. Me Saint-Villier stresses that the Magistrates have accepted this compromise in order not to further penalize the rights of litigants.

However, he specifies that contrary to the assertions of the CSPJ it is not the main demands which have been satisfied and that this agreement which is only a partial compromise, will not make it possible to solve the structural problems which the judicial power faces, problems that remain for the moment pending the realization of the promises of the Head of State in a future amending budget...

According to this agreement "A Commission consisting of the representatives of the parties (Ministry of Justice, Economy and CSPJ) will be formed at a later date, in order to ensure the follow-up and the execution of this agreement."

Let's recall that since last July, the Haitian justice, across the 18 jurisdictions of the country operates intermittently due to the proliferation of strikes of clerks, bailiffs and magistrates who claim among other things better working conditions and substantial increases in wages.
