CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It may be too early to tell whether the weather this Halloween calls for an ice princess costume or a lifeguard, if our warm weather continues. But looking into the past in Cleveland, the trick-or-treating holiday usually is on the cooler side. This year, we might get lucky.
Cleveland's average high on Halloween hovers around 57 degrees -- but that's not when the kids have taken to the streets with their pumpkin candy-filled baskets. Usually trick-or-treating begins an hour or two after the day's high, cooling a few degrees.
Mid to upper 50s doesn't sound too bad, but that's just an average. Halloween in Cleveland has ranged from Florida-feelings to Arctic-cold. The warmest Halloween on record was 82 degrees back in 1950. In 1988, the record coldest was set when the air dropped to a bone-chilling 19 degrees.
Akron trends a few degrees cooler, mainly because Lake Erie takes longer to cool in the fall than the air, keeping coastal areas warmer.
This is an extremely early look, therefore there is a high chance this forecast could change, but right now Halloween in Cleveland is looking cool and dry. The high could reach the upper 50s with lows in the low 50s -- leaving a lot of costume possibilities.
