Connecticut College, 270 Mohegan Ave. in New London, is hosting a Contemporary French Film Festival from Oct. 23 to 27, with screenings of six new and classic films from France.
All screenings are in Blaustein Humanities Center, Room 210 and are at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Admission is free and open to the public.
The series starts on Monday, Oct. 23, with “La Mort de Louis XIV” (“The Death of Louis XIV”), the 2017 biopic about the last days of the monarch. A reception will precede the film at 6:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Oct. 24, “La noire de” (“The Black Girl”), Ousmane Sembene’s 1966 classic about a Senegalese woman working as a domestic servant in France, will be shown at 4:15 p.m. The second film is “Voir du Pays” (“The Stopover”), a 2016 drama about French soldiers on leave in Cyprus.
On Wednesday, Oct. 25, the school will show “Quand on a 17 ans” (“Being 17”), an LGBT coming-of-age story from 2016.
The series continues on Thursday, Oct. 26, with “A peine j’ouvre les yeux” (“As I Open My Eyes”), a 2015 Tunisian drama about a girl who wants to be a rock singer.
The series closes on Friday, Oct. 27, with “Avril et le monde truque” (“April and the Extraordinary World”), a 2015 animated story about a girl searching for her missing parents.
