The US Open announced in February that its wallet had bulged to an eye-popping $12 million ($9.37 million), a new record for most money paid out to a field.

That figure is up from $10 million in 2016, with this year's winner pocketing an extra $400,000. If Brian Harman can hold onto his one shot lead on Sunday, his personal coffers will swell by $2.2 million.

Southport's Tommy Fleetwood could see his career earnings more than double by the end of the tournament. Fleetwood ended day three in a three-way tie for second, one shot off the leader Brian Harman, who sits on 12 under. Fleetwood's career earnings on the PGA Tour to date stand at $327,076, so any finish from 8th upwards would do the trick.

In the event of a tie, the money is split evenly through those positions. For example, if Justin Thomas, Bruce Koepka and Fleetwood remain in their three-way deadlock for the runners-up spot, their pool of money will be $2.67 million. That pot would be split between the three of them, making them all $889,222 richer. Happy days.
