Liverpool's Toxic Thunder kit hasn't exactly proved the club's most popular.

To say the Reds' fluorescent third kit has received a mixed reaction this season would be putting it lightly.

But it appears New Balance's inspiration for the radioactive waste-style strip has been discovered; none other than American TV sitcom Malcolm in the Middle.

Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) has been captured sporting a remarkably similar t-shirt to Liverpool's eye-opening lime number, complete with the white line across the chest and down the forearms.

The Grammy award-winning show - which also starred Bryan Cranston - ended back in 2006, but it appears someone within kit manufacturers New Balance must have been going through the box set when they were weighing up ideas for the 2016-17 shirts.

Somehow they managed to convince their colleagues that Malcolm's t-shirt was worth copying, and they probably regret the decision in hindsight.

Liverpool have lost three of six games in all competitions wearing the green kit, winning away at Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace while wearing it

It won't be missed?
